8.7 miles to Monarch Spur RV park, elevation 9,141’
We got on the trail around 7:25 am after we both slept poorly. The day was again uneventful … we’re both ready for the higher mountain trails on the west side of this loop!
We arrived at Hwy 50 around noon. Time to practice our hitchhiking skills. It’s only 0.9 miles to the park but it’s along a very busy highway with no road shoulder. After about 10 minutes Craig and Joleen stopped and picked us up. They had just dropped off another hiker at the ski resort a few miles up the road.
Once at the park, we got a tent site and did our “town” duties: took showers, did laundry and opened up our resupply boxes. By 3:30 pm we were finished and it was time to relax and let our bodies heal a little bit.
