In September 2022, we spent 10 days canoeing in the remote wilderness of Wabakimi Provincial Park in northwest Ontario, Canada. Wabakimi Provincial Park is northwest of Armstrong Station, which is 3 hours north of Thunder Bay, Ontario, which is 3 hours north of Duluth, Minnesota. This park in Canada’s boreal forest contains a vast and interconnected network of lakes and rivers and covers an area of 3,440 square miles.

We covered approximately 100 miles and portaged our gear over 33 trails for a total 4.3 miles one way. We usually double portage so we actually walked almost 13 miles. It was a great adventure and it left us eager to do more remote wilderness trips.
Some stats from our trip: 3 bald eagles, 15 loons, 2 hawks, 3 beavers, 5 ducks, 3 garter snakes (2 swimming in the water), 7 Canada geese, and 1 moose (on the road).
Fish caught: Ellen: 8 pike, 1 walleye. Jeff: 5 pike, 1 walleye for dinner
