Our last morning started off with a little excitement! As Chris was packing up his tent, he found that sometime during the night a snake had curled up under his tent and right under his head for some warmth. Yuk! Later on, we learned that it was a Rubber Boa, a nonvenomous snake that is native to the area but rarely encountered.

Bridge over junction of Woods and Bubbs creeks
The hike down was uneventful but still gorgeous. We crossed the bridge over the junction of Bubbs and Woods creeks and then we were home free. After loading our gear into the car we washed off in the creek and then drove to Grant Grove to get some lunch … burgers!
We turned in the two-way radio Jeff had found in the backcountry to the Rangers at the visitor center. They were surprised but appreciative. Then it was time for the 6-hour drive back to southern California. It was a great trip even though we did not do our original route. We will be back!
