It was time to leave this beautiful area and take the ferry back to Juneau. We left early and after a four hour boat ride we were back in Juneau. We did not have a car so we use Uber to get around. After checking into our Airbnb, we wanted to check out the Mendenhall glacier. This was one of the glaciers we saw on our first day in Alaska as we took the ferry to Skagway. The Mendenhall glacier has been retreating very fast over the past 100 years.
The wall in the front of the picture on the left was the view platform. Seventy years ago, the Mendenhall glacier was right below that wall. Since then it has retreated. The waterfall on the right side of both pictures used to be under the glacier.

Nugget falls
One can now take the short one mile walk to the base of the Nugget falls. The glacier is in the background. We had a great time exploring the area and were amazed at the effects of climate change has had on Mendenhall glacier.
Later that evening we took an Uber to downtown Juneau for dinner. The next day it was time to head back home. We really enjoyed our short stay and exploring this corner of Alaska.
