JMT mile 47.9
Total miles: 55.9
Camp elevation: 9,154’
Another epic day. Total miles hiked was 10.7. There seems to be a theme on hiking each day: Little down, then up, back down again. As soon as you gain elevation it’s time to go back down again.
The day started of climbing down the south side of Donahue pass. Pretty meadows and more marmots. We went over island lake pass.
The major highlight of the day was arriving at Thousand Island Lake. We both have seen plenty of pictures but to actually be there was very special. We took a long break, swam, ate lunch and rinsed our dirty shorts and shirts. As we were packing up to get going one single cloud appeared and it started raining.

Then it was off to see Garnet Lake and Ruby Lake. Both beautiful lakes surrounded by towering mountains.

It was getting late and we still need to find a camping spot. So after another 11 hour day of hiking we found a nice spot next to running water and a rock outcropping overlooking the minarets.

Having an awesome time,
Jeff and Ellen
